Former Mohawk Valley DiamondDawg Ryan Hernandez continues to make his mark in professional baseball.
Hernandez, a 6-foot-5, 239-pound first baseman and designated hitter, recently had his contract transferred from the Lake Country DockHounds of the American Association of Professional Baseball to the Acereros de Monclova of the Mexican League.
Before making the move to Mexico, Hernandez was putting together an outstanding season with Lake Country. He entered the transfer leading the American Association’s Triple Crown race, hitting .376 with 14 home runs and 44 RBIs in 32 games and 125 at-bats.
The 27-year-old slugger also brings previous experience with Acereros de Monclova. Last season, Hernandez hit .249 with 18 home runs, 50 RBIs and 21 doubles while posting a .473 slugging percentage and .853 OPS in 89 games.
His professional career has included stops throughout the United States. Following a strong season with the Cleburne Railroaders of the American Association, Hernandez had his contract purchased by the Los Angeles Angels in 2023 and played High-A baseball with the Tri-City Dust Devils.
Hernandez began his collegiate career at the University at Albany before transferring to the University of Houston, where he put together three productive seasons at the plate. He continued his baseball career in the MLB Draft League in 2022 with the West Virginia Black Bears before beginning his professional journey.
Now, Hernandez’s journey continues in the Mexican League with Acereros de Monclova.
