By Josh McMullen – Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs
LITTLE FALLS, NY – Despite 11 strikeouts from Colin Ruddy (East Hampton, NY/George Washington), the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs simply could not get anything going on offense, only picking up one run in seven hits in the 5-1 loss to the Glens Falls Dragons on Tuesday.
The Dragons got on the board first just four batters in, thanks to a long triple by Odilio Cespedes (Santo Domingo/Bryant and Stratton) and an RBI single by the next batter — Ryan Grace (Concord, MA/Colby) — that slowly rolled into center field. However, the Diamond Dawgs would even the ledger in the second, thanks to a triple-RBI combination of their own from Mark Darakjy (Randolph, NJ/St. Bonaventure) and Sam Miller (McMurray, PA/Columbia).
Glens Falls edged back out in front in the fifth on an RBI ground out by Nick Marola (Wilton, NY/Coker), scoring Johan Sandoval (Santo Domingo/Bryant and Stratton). The score would stay that way until the ninth when Cespedes would lace a seeing-eye single to right, scoring Arit Moreno (Miami, FL/Atlantis) and Alex Sandell (Cambridge, MA/Holy Cross). Grace would also come home in the inning on a passed ball.
That was all reliever Patrick Reilly (Albany, NY/Central Connecticut) needed, only allowing two ninth-inning walks to get the save for the Dragons.
Billy Canale (Niskayuna, NY/LeMoyne) got the win for Glens Falls (6-10). Ruddy got the loss for Mohawk Valley (14-5).
Mohawk Valley is on the road on Wednesday to Donovan Stadium to take on the Utica Blue Sox before a doubleheader on Thursday at Veteran’s Memorial Park against the Saugerties Stallions. Glens Falls continues its road trip on Friday when they take on the Boonville Lumberjacks and will finish the trip on Saturday when they take on the Stallions at Cantine Field.
