LITTLE FALLS, NY – The Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs braved the heat and the rain on Thursday night, putting together a six-run inning to knock off the Glens Falls Dragons, 9-0, in a rain-shortened PGCBL affair.
Connor Scanlan (Fairfield) got the Diamond Dawgs on the board early, slamming a looping ball into right field to score Joe Crenshaw (Richmond) in the first. Jake Haarde (Fairfield) added another two runs on a double to left field, scoring Scanlan and Byron Arias (Dominican)
A double steal by Crenshaw and Arias extended the lead to four in the fifth. Jake Haarde (Fairfield) added another two on a hard-hit bouncer to left field, scoring Scanlan and Arias. Another run came to the plate on a tough RBI single by Nolan Colby (Fairfield), scoring Brodie Freker (George Washington) from second. Jaden Santiago finally chased reliever Alex Kerr (Wagner) from the game a couple of batters later with a slow-rolling RBI single to right field.
The outing for Kyle Fives (Mt. St. Mary’s) did not start out any better, as yet another RBI single by Diaz scored the sixth run of the inning. But that’s when the rain would come in, driving everyone off the field for the night.
Ali Hood (LaFayette) picked up the win for Mohawk Valley, while Tyler Weygard got the loss for Glens Falls.
The Diamond Dawgs are back in action on Friday night when they travel to Saugerties for another battle with the Stallions. The Dragons will travel to Oneonta on Friday to take on the Outlaws.
