LITTLE FALLS, NY – No one at Veteran’s Memorial Park would deny themselves some tears on Tuesday night as the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs won one for Lou.
The long-time public address announcer for the Diamond Dawgs, Lou Parrotta, passed away just before game time on Tuesday night against the Saugerties Stallions. The Diamond Dawgs made sure they remembered him in the right way, winning on the very last out, 5-4 in extra innings.
Nick Croce (Chipolla) got the scoring going just three batters in, cracking a single up the middle that scored Lewis Rodriguez (Marist).
Brandon Hauk (St. Thomas Aquinas) managed to take advantage of Marciano Neglia (Rockland CC) walking the bases loaded in the bottom of the first. He would be hit by a pitch and bring home Joey Calabretti (Seton Hall).
Sammy Blanco (Dallas College-Eastfield) broke the tie in the top of the fourth with a cracked ball to left field that brought home Travis Hobbensiefken (Johnson). Casey Cumiskey (Seton Hall) came home one batter later on a fielder’s choice.
Brandon Hauk clawed the deficit back to one in the fifth with a sharply hit ball to left field. That brought home Edwin Sanchez (Siena College)). Sanchez would score again in the seventh on a throwing error by the Saugerties pitcher.
A throwing error would bring home a Saugerties run in the tenth, but Hauk would tie up the score on a passed ball. Then, with two outs in the tenth, Joey Calabretti sent everyone home happy with an RBI single to center field to bring home John Calabrese (Bucknell)
Aidan Colagrande (Stony Brook) picked up the win for Mohawk Valley (2-2)
The Diamond Dawgs have an off day on Wednesday before hosting the Oneonta Outlaws on Thursday.
