LITTLE FALLS, NY – The hot streak for the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs to start the 2026 season continued on Sunday, as they took advantage of several errors by the Albany Athletics to get their fourth straight win, 10-4 in an exhibition game.
The Diamond Dawgs jumped on the board in the first, when a passed ball got away from catcher Christian Tortorici (Houghton), scoring Aiden Streeter (American International). Nolan Colby (Fairfield) added another in the second, smashing a ball to right-center field and scoring Wesley Alfonso (American International).
Kyle Coleman (Belmont) extended the lead to three on a hard-hit ground ball by Streeter, then another passed ball scored Colby.
Nick Plue (SUNY Cortland) cut the lead to three in the third after a towering solo home run to center field.
Another run came in the fourth on a throwing error by Tortorici, allowing Streeter to score. Two more pitches later, Jake Haarde (Fairfield) came home on a passed ball.
Harssh Ramayanam Venkkat (Brown) extended the lead to six in the sixth with a deep sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Jack Henning (Trinity University) from third base. Yet another passed ball, this time by pitcher Colin McMahon (Hamilton) brought home Crenshaw, while an RBI double by Colby brought home Coleman. Colby came home one batter later on an RBI single by Streeter.
Ryan Reagan got the Athletics closer in the seventh with a three-run home run to left field, but Ramayanam Venkkat – who came on to pitch in the inning – struck out the last two Athletics he saw to finish off the game.
Peyton Brzozowy (Monmouth) picked up the win for Mohawk Valley, and Luke Tisenchek (Manhattan) got the loss for Albany.
Mohawk Valley will have a very short rest before traveling to Utica for a field trip game at Murnane Field at 10 am on Monday.
