LITTLE FALLS, NY – After being shut out and held to only five hits in Oneonta on Friday, the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs came back to Veteran’s Memorial Park looking to get back on track.
They got that and then some on Saturday, scattering hits and squashing some late-game heroics in a 7-6 win over the Glens Falls Dragons.
Mohawk Valley got on the board first just two batters in, as Joe Crenshaw (Richmond) brought Erick Diaz (Dominican) home with a hard-hit ball to the left-field corner. Crenshaw came home on a fielder’s choice from Connor Scanlan (Fairfield).
The lead was cut in half in the second on an RBI single from Tyler McKillop (UMass Lowell) into left field, scoring Nick Sorbera (Barton).
Crenshaw got his second and third RBIs of the night in the fourth, cracking a ball to the left field wall to score Diaz and Jack Henning (Trinity). Jake Haarde brought the lead to four on a 2-RBI single, scoring Fairfield teammates Nolan Colby and Scanlan.
Taye Robinson (Towson) cut the lead to three in the sixth, sending a ball over the left-field wall for a solo home run.
However, the lead would go back to five in the bottom of the inning, thanks to a two-run single by Scanlan. The bouncing ball into left field scored Crenshaw and Diaz.
The Dragons chipped away again in the seventh, starting with an RBI single by Tyler Worth (Fairleigh-Dickinson Teaneck), scoring Rene Vega (Post). Giorgio Pantepinto (Iona cut the lead to three with an RBI groundout by David Yorke (Sacred Heart).
Another two runs came in the ninth for Glens Falls, thanks to a 2-RBI double by Anthony Lino (Eckerd), scoring Worth and Kaden Barmer (Goldey-Beacom). However, that would be as close as the Dragons would get, as Matt Kurek knocked the next two batters down to end the game and get the save.
Ali Hood (LaFayette) picked up the win, while RJ Ensel (Flagler) was saddled with the loss.
The Diamond Dawgs will be back in action on Sunday for the first game in a three-game road trip in Boonville to take on the Lumberjacks for the third time this season. The Dragons will head back to East Field for a Sunday night game with the Saugerties Stallions.
