By Josh McMullen – Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs

LITTLE FALLS, NY – A couple of nights ago, the Boonville Lumberjacks scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to beat the Watertown Rapids. On Saturday night, the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs made sure the proverbial shoe was on the other foot, as a sacrifice fly provided the game-winning run in a 3-2 victory for Mohawk Valley.

The score would be knotted at zero until the fourth, when Corey Adams (Richmond, VA/William, and Mary) bounced a ball into right field, scoring Jaden Ross (Tampa, FL/South Florida). Mitchell Balint (/Carson-Newman) brought home Adams on a sacrifice fly to right field to extend the lead to two.
.
The lead would drop to one in the sixth on an RBI single by Santiago Jimenez (Bayonne, NJ/Prince George CC). His hit to right field scored Eli Snelson (Harselle, AL/Union), but a shortstop-to-third-base double play ended any hope of a further rally.

The game would stay a pitcher’s duel the rest of the way, but not before a ground out by Dom Jackson (Gulf Breeze, FL/Xavier), that would score Ben Bohlman (Cheyenne, WY/Colby CC) in the ninth. But Sam Miller (McMurray, PA/Columbia), as he has for most of the season, provided the late-game heroics on a sacrifice fly to center field with the bases loaded to score Owen Pincince (North Haven, CT/New Haven) for the final run of the game.

Aidan Colagrande (Kings Park, NY/Fairfield) got the win for Mohawk Valley (18-10). Mason Collins (Alabaster, AL/Stillman) was saddled with the loss for Boonville (7-20).

The Diamond Dawgs have a day off on Sunday before a doubleheader at Donovan Stadium on Monday against the Utica Blue Sox. The Lumberjacks will be back at the Robert Smith Sports Complex on Sunday to host the Watertown Rapids.
