LITTLE FALLS, NY – It was only one game of a doubleheader (the second game got called due to rain), but the Albany Baseball Club made sure they would steal one to end their losing streak, 8-7 over the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs.
Albany got on the board first, scoring leadoff hitter Jordan Daniels on an RBI single by Brooks Carter.
Five free bases to start the third inning would give Albany a four-run lead, helped along by a sacrifice fly by Matt Thorsen. The Diamond Dawgs would not say die, though, picking up four runs of their own in the very next half-inning. Helped along by three straight singles and an RBI double by Justin Hurd, Mohawk Valley was able to tie the game up before the rain started falling around Veteran’s Memorial Park.
The Baseball Club picked up another two runs in the sixth, thanks to a home run by Thorsen and an RBI double by Luke Filippi.
Mohawk Valley got three runs in the last inning to take the lead, but with the rain coming down, Joey Slattery hit an RBI single with the bases loaded to end the game.
Von Baker got the win for Albany, who snapped a seven-game losing streak. Tyler Hodella got the loss for Mohawk Valley.
The Diamond Dawgs are back in action on Friday when they host the Glens Falls Dragons.
